Love grows one by one

When HH was almost one, his cousins came to visit and CC, who was in kindergarten at the time, sang us a song she had learned. HH liked it so much that it became part of our nightly routine; we sang it when he brushed his teeth. Even now, we still use it while we brush DD’s and MM’s teeth. For some reason, it helps keep them stationary while we brush them.

Today, HH came home and seemed so surprised and excited about something he learned that day.

HH: “Mom, guess what song we learned at school today!”
Me: “What?”
HH: “Love grows one by one!”
Me: (surprised) “Really? Is it the same ‘Love grows’ that we know?”
HH: Yes!!
Me: Did you tell the teacher you knew the song?
HH: Yes!! He told me since I know the song, that I had to sing along.
Me: So did you sing?
HH: Yes!!

Then he proceeded to sing the song to me.. and continued to sing the song throughout the rest of the evening. He was so excited that he knew something already that they were teaching in school.

Here are the lyrics to the song. It’s nice to see the song ‘come back knocking’ at our house.

Love grows, one by one
Two by two and four by four
Love grows ’round like a circle
And comes back knocking at your front door.
